The Sense is a boutique Pilates & Yoga studio in Basel offering personal, tandem and small group training on equipment, as well as Yoga to help you reach your ultimate level of balance and strength in a positive, non-intimidating environment.

Originally a form of rehabilitation, Pilates was developed in the early 1920s by Joseph H. Pilates. The Pilates method has evolved and been adapted over the years to reflect modern knowledge of functional bodywork.

Pilates focuses on postural muscles and systematically trains your body to build lean, toned muscles. Pilates teaches you to breathe and move with strength. The method consists of a variety of resistance and flexibility exercises specifically designed to strengthen and balance muscles as they stretch.

A more balanced body will minimize your risk of injury and will lead to a healthier, more focused mind and body.

Yoga supports a path that reaches beyond movement. It is a rich and insightful framework for self-development and an integrated approach that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and energetic needs.

Power yoga is a modified form of Ashtanga Yoga. The Asanas (positions) are practiced and modified to avoid overloading joints and overstraining the body. The flowing movement sequences are adapted to the needs of the participants and are synchronized with breath.

Through movement, energetic sequencing, breathwork, and meditation, Yoga aims to develop and maintain a healthy body and mind.

Pilates equipment allows a variety of adaptations and modifications of exercises, providing either assistance or challenge. Clients can progress from an assisted setting to an advanced version of many of the traditional Pilates mat work exercises. Contemporary Pilates’ repertoire is constantly evolving and expanding.

V2max plus Reformer

Ladder Barrel

Tanja Schröter-Noll, Owner

Pilates and Yoga

I am French-Swiss, a mother of two, and lived in the United States and Singapore before moving back to Switzerland and Basel in 2013.

My personal Pilates journey began with a deep longing for movement and to help overcome a congenital hip condition. Pilates soon became a passion.

I received my first certification in 2005 from PilatesITC (Australia). In 2007, I received the comprehensive POLESTAR® Pilates Studio Certification (all equipment). Since then, I have trained extensively with STOTT® Pilates and worked with the TRX® suspension training system. I re-certified with POLESTAR® in Basel in 2012/2013.

Before following my interest in movement and Pilates, I studied pharmacy and worked internationally in the pharmaceutical industry.

I believe Pilates provides incomparable body awareness, strength and balance, constituting an ideal foundation for other forms of exercise.

In addition to Pilates, I started a regular Yoga practice 15 years ago in Asia. I completed formal Yoga training with Power Yoga Switzerland (RYT 200Hrs and 300Hrs) in 2022 and 2024.

Movement, breathwork, meditation, and yoga philosophy are powerful tools to develop and maintain a healthy body and mind.

Diana Fritsch

Yoga

I am a certified RYT 500 Yoga teacher with Power Yoga Switzerland led by Markus Latscha at Exhale in Basel.

I teach Power Yoga, Yin Yoga and private yoga classes. As a substitute in various fitness and yoga studios, as well as in private lessons, I was able to gain wonderful experience in responding to the individual needs of each person. I teach yoga in German.

I came into contact with yoga later in life, but sport and exercise have always been part of my life. When I'm not out in nature with our family dog, I enjoy our 3 grandchildren.

What is yoga for me? Yoga is a philosophy of life, the essence of life.

I have found the answers in yoga to questions that concern me and my everyday life, at work and within the family.

Yoga is about feeling and discovering my body, energy and spirit, finding peace and serenity in the stillness of meditation.

Yoga is all that and so much more.

Are you curious? Then contact us without obligation.

Yours sincerely,

Diana

OPEN STUDIO – INDEPENDENT PILATES WORK OUT IN SMALL GROUPS

Work out at your own pace following your own individual program.

The Open Studio concept is ideal to assimilate and benefit from the Pilates method while working independently in a small group setting (up to 3 people). It additionally constitutes affordable access to equipment-based Pilates, an alternative or an addition to personal training classes.

You will follow a set program tailored to your specific needs. As you progress this program will evolve and will be revised every 6 to 8 weeks by your instructor.

Your instructor will be present and will assist when necessary or requested. The goal of these classes is your ability to work independently.

Prerequisite: You will be asked to have completed a minimum of 6 classes with the one-on-one Pilates starter which includes an Initial Assessment and 5 one-on-one classes.

This is necessary to familiarize yourself with the method and the various equipment. During those 6 classes we assess your posture, movement, and proficiency level as well as develop your first personalized program.

See class schedule above. Classes are by appointment only.
